Sugar and Spice & Snips and Snails

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "SUGAR AND SPICE AND EVERYTHING NICE; THAT'S WHAT LITTLE GIRLS ARE MADE OF. SNIPS AND SNAILS AND PUPPY DOG TAILS; THAT'S WHAT LITTLE BOYS ARE MADE OF."--Nursery Rhyme

My niece was married this weekend. As I was returning from the reception this evening, my mind went to thoughts of Ed whose nephew collapsed tonight and had to go to the hospital. Ed got the emergency phone call and drove down directly from the reception and one of my sisters let me ride home with her. I think I like the groom. He is stationed in Korea for now and was here just for the wedding, I guess. Details are sketchy. It will be nice getting to know them as a couple.

Running head: CHURCH OF JERUSALEM
INFORMATION BROCHURE

Church of Jerusalem Information Brochure
Introduction
The early church of the First Century was begun immediately upon the day of Pentecost. The disciples went about Jerusalem proclaiming Jesus ascension. The Apostles heard the sound of wind; tongues like fire showed over their heads, and they began to speak in tongues. A crowd of peoples from all nations heard and understood in their own languages. This paper will explain what the new church was like and what their mission and objective would be now. Additionally, it will show the functions of each member of this new church. There was an updated message to proclaim; one must be baptized in Holy Spirit and repent in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.
Mission Statement

The Church of Jerusalem is dedicated to spreading the word of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

1. Believe: The first principle of the church is to have faith in God and in Christ as the Messiah
2. Believe: The second principle of the church is to believe in the Messiah
3. Believe: The third principle is to believe in Christ’s miracles and his Word.
4. Believe: The third principle of the church is to believe in yourself. Believe that you have the courage to stand strong and fight for the word of God.

5. Believe: The fourth principle is the belief in God’s Kingdom. Believe that it exists and that there is a path through Christ’s teachings.

6. Believe: The fifth principle is the belief in Christ’s resurrection; believe that he died to save man.

7. Believe: The fourth principle is the belief in God’s Kingdom. Believe that it exists and that there is a path through Christ’s teachings.
Objective
The new objective of the church is to get born of the spirit of God, baptized by the Holy Spirit and repent in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. The goals of this new ministry and its believers are:
1.) To learn of Christ’s death, resurrection, and appearances to men after death, as well as his ascension to heaven to be with the Father.
2.) To preach this new message of salvation through Jesus Christ, the risen Son of God, to the whole world.
All believers have an individual responsibility in carrying this out. Each believer has been endued with “power from on high” and has the ability to pursue
this privilege.
3.) All things are done to glory of God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, the son.
4.) Every believer grows with love.
5.) Contributes their common goods to the church to meet the needs of others.
6.) Believers gather in people’s homes for worship and prayer.

Key Old Testament Scriptures (Fulfilled Prophesies); New Testament Scriptures
“’But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you;
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’ (ACTS 1: 7b, 8, Life Application Study Bible, 1997) (LASB), was spoken by Jesus immediately before his ascension.
Joel 28, 29 was quoted by Peter. (Acts 2:17-21) This told of God’s Spirit being poured our on all people and all people prophesying.
Psalm 16:8-11 quoted by Peter. (Acts 2:25-28) This is regarding Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

Acts Chapter 1 –6 Synopsis: Jesus’ ascension described. Judas replaced by Matthias. On the day of Pentecost three thousand people were converted. The Apostles heal all the sick. Peter and John are told by the leaders not to preach Jesus. Ananias and Sapphira lie about giving to the church and die. Believers begin sharing their possessions with others. Seven leaders were chosen to help with the work of the ministry to give the apostles time to pray and minister the Word.
Acts Chapters 7-12 Synopsis: Stephen is stoned to death. Simon the sorcerer believes the Gospel message. Philip baptizes the Ethiopian. Saul is converted on the road to Damascus. Peter brings the Word to the Gentiles. Peter tells his story about bringing the Word to Cornelius a Gentile. Barnabas and Saul spend one year together teaching; the disciples were first called Christians at Antioch. Paul escapes from prison with the help of an angel. Herod dies.
Gentiles, as well as Jewish people are all now called to the Kingdom of God. God has throughout Scripture intended for all to come to him, however culture of the Jews prohibited it much. This is evident in records such as Jonah and his reluctance to preach to Ninevah. This account of Jonah is probably what Peter preached to Cornelius, the centurion, when his whole household received the Holy Spirit.
